Homework
We approach homework as a means to reinforce learning in the classroom, with a key focus on nurturing the joy of reading. We encourage you as parents and carers to ensure your child is reading for pleasure every day. Reading is the single most important activity you can do at home. In addition, we ask that you support your child in practising essential skills which are fundamental to their learning, including arithmetic, multiplication tables and phonics. Occasionally, your child may be given an additional, short task designed to consolidate and extend a key skill that they have recently learnt in class. This measured approach ensures home learning is meaningful, manageable, and supports a healthy balance between school and home life.

Your child in year 6 will gradually begin to receive more homework to help them develop the essential organisational and time management skills required for life in secondary school. Furthermore, this also serves to consolidate key knowledge and skills they will need to succeed in their upcoming statutory assessments in the summer term.
To further support and consolidate your child's learning, we also provide access to a menu of online learning platforms. These resources are designed not only to reinforce the concepts and skills taught in class, such as handwriting practice, but also to allow children to explore different areas of interest that link to our curriculum. Utilising these platforms at home offers a dynamic and digital way for your child to deepen their understanding, practice key skills, and discover subjects in greater depth, all at their own pace. Please refer to the 'Curriculum Newsletters' section for more information.
