The following Admissions Policy applies to Foxfield Primary School, Sandbach Place, London SE18 7EX
The school is responsible for offering Nursery placements. The admission limit for Foxfield’s nursery will be 100 places. We have provision to offer places on a part-time 15 hours per week basis made up 50 places in a morning sessionand 50 places in an afternoon session.
Children will usually be admitted into Nursery in the term after their third birthday subject to availability of place, and places will be offered in the term before the children are due to start. Documentation will be required to support applications including children’s birth certificate or passport and proof of address. This will consist of Council Tax statement, Council Tax Benefit letter, or Council Tax exemption certificate.
We have provision for part time places totalling 15 hours per week either in the morning or the afternoon.

Applications to nursery schools or classes are made direct to the school.
Children will not be admitted to a nursery class or nursery school before their third birthday.
If it is not possible to offer a child a place, a request can be made for the child’s name to be placed on the waiting list. However, there is no formal appeals process.
All places are allocated according to the admissions criteria below and distance (Category 5) is measured in a straight line from the applicant’s home address to the main school gate located on Sandbach Place.
Supplementary Information Form (SIF)
This school does not require a Supplementary Information form to be completed.
All children requiring a Reception Class space will need to apply for a primary school place through the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

Foxfield Primary School will admit 90 children into the three Reception classes each September.

If there are more applications than places available, Royal Borough of Greenwich will use its admission criteria, as detailed below, to decide which applicants should be offered a place.
If the number of applications for a school is higher than the number of places available, the allocations will be made in the following order.
First priority will go to children with an education, health and care (EHC) plan naming the school.
Remaining places will be given in the following order:
- Looked after children and previously looked after children who have been adopted or become subject to child arrangements or a special guardianship order immediately after having been looked after.
A looked after child is a child who is in the care of an English or Welsh local authority in accordance with section 22 (a) of the Children Act 1989.
- Children who have been in state care outside of England
A child is regarded as having been in state care in a place outside of England if they were accommodated by a public authority, a religious organisation or any other provider of care whose sole purpose is to benefit society.
- Children with a chronic medical or social care need for a particular school.
This may also apply to an immediate family member. The application must be supported by a letter written by a professional such as a qualified medical practitioner, setting out the reasons why the school is the only one that can meet the child's needs and the implications for the child if they are not offered a place at the school.
Work commitments and childcare arrangements are not considered as being a chronic medical or social care need.
- Children with a sibling - living at the same address - who is already attending the school at the time of the child's admission.
Sibling means a full, half, step, adopted or foster brother or sister. This does not include siblings who attend a school's nursery provision.
- Other children based on home to school distance.
The distance from home to school is measured as a straight line from the centre of the home address to the centre of the school site.
If two applicants live an equal distance from the school, the offer of a place will be decided by random allocation.
Attendance at a school's nursery, children of staff, work commitments and childcare arrangements are not part of the decision making process
Distance will be used as a tiebreaker for each oversubscription criterion. Where distance is the same for two or more applicants, random allocation will be used, which will be independently verified.
A waiting list is held for the first term of the reception year, and thereafter applicants are required to complete the local authority’s in-year application form if they wish to remain on the waiting list. In-year waiting lists are maintained for one academic year and applicants are required to re- apply for each academic year.
Parents whose application for a place at this school is unsuccessful may appeal to an independent appeal panel, under the provisions of the School Standards and Framework Act, 1998. Appeals must be made in writing, setting out the reasons on which the appeal is made, and sent to the admission appeals clerk at the school address, so that it is received by the date given in the letter confirming the governors’ decision not to offer a place. Parents/carers have the right to make oral representations to the appeal panel.
Children of multiple births
Where a parent applies for entry into the same year group for more than one child all children will be admitted. If it is not possible to offer a place to all of the children, the names of those children who were unsuccessful will be accorded sibling priority on the waiting list, i.e. the school to which the successful child has been admitted.
Admission of children outside their normal age group
Parents may request that their child is exceptionally admitted outside their normal age group. The school will decide whether or not the individual child’s circumstances make this appropriate on educational grounds.
All requests to educate a child outside their normal year group should include written explanation of why this is necessary and, where applicable, evidence of the child’s circumstances from a relevant professional, detailing the child’s educational need which makes education outside the normal age group necessary. Decisions, made in the best interest of the child, will take account of the following.:
- Parents’ views
- Information relating to the child’s academic, social and emotional development, where relevant;
- Medical history and the views of a medical professional;
- Any previous history of being educated outside of their normal age group;
- If a child may have naturally fallen into a lower age if the child has not been born prematurely;
- Views of the head teacher.
Notes for clarification
Looked-after children are defined as children in public care at the date on which the application is made. Previously looked-after children are children who were looked after, but ceased to be so because they were adopted or became subject to a child arrangement order or special guardianship order, immediately after being ‘looked-after’ criterion, it must be supported by a letter from the relevant local authority children’s services department and/or relevant documents.
A sibling is defined as a brother or sister, half-brother or sister, step-brother or sister whose main residence is at the same address.
The medical reasons must be verified by a GP or consultant and declared at the time of application, if known at the time. Claims for priority of admission on medical grounds will not be considered if submitted after a decision on the original application has been made.
The application must be supported by a letter from a hospital consultant and/or the family’s GP.
‘Home’ is defined as the address where the child normally resides as their only or principal residence. Addresses involving child minding (professional or relatives) are excluded. Parents will be asked to provide documentary evidence to confirm an address and parental responsibility. The local authority should be notified of changes of address immediately. Failure to do so could result in the child being denied a place at a preferred school.
The distance will be measured in a straight line from the child’s home address to the designated entrance(s) of the school using a computerised measuring system (GIS) and geographical reference points as provided by the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG). Those living closer to the school will receive higher priority.
If a child lives in a shared property such as flats, the geographical references will determine the start point within the property boundaries to be used for distance calculation purposes.
Child minding arrangements cannot be taken into account when allocating places at this school.
Parents of children attending the nursery class must still apply in the usual way. These children are not guaranteed a reception class place at the school.
In-Year admissions for 2021
Changing schools can be disruptive and may not be in your child's best interests. We recommend that before requesting a transfer, you discuss your reasons with senior staff at your child's current school. They will be happy to discuss any concerns and help to resolve any issues.
If, after this, if you still want your child to transfer to Foxfield Primary, you will need to apply using the process described below.
If you have recently been informed by Royal Greenwich admissions that your child has been allocated a place at Foxfield, Mrs Horsfield, our Home School Liaison Officer, will contact you and invite you and your child into school to complete the necessary forms. You will also have the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, their class, and to familiarise yourself with our building. Once all relevant documentation has been completed and received, your child will usually join us within the following two weeks.

A fair access protocol exists to ensure that children without a school place, especially the most vulnerable, are offered a place at an appropriate school as quickly as possible.
The fair access panel meets fortnightly and it includes representatives from Royal Greenwich schools, the local authority and other agencies.
The panel considers all the information available and the child's individual circumstances to make a decision about what school would best meet the child's needs.
Children admitted through the fair access panel get priority over children who wish to transfer to another school and those who are waiting for an appeal.
